Kita-no-Itsukushima Bentengu Shrine
This spot is a highly recommended stopover for visitors planning to travel to Neguma-no-Iwa Rock and Jinmen-Iwa Rock. It is said that long ago a ship caught in a storm was about to become wrecked on the rocks before the Buddhist goddess Benzaiten saved the sailors’ lives. According to the story, they built this shrine to the goddess as a symbol of gratitude for her protection. The rock on which the shrine stands is known as the Ryujin-no-Iwa Rock, or Dragon King Rock.
