Lake Kushu

Lake Kushu is the only lake on Rebun Island and the northernmost lake in Japan. It has a circumference of about 4 km and is home to species such as carp, crucian carp and whitespotted char. Many of Rebun Island’s rare wetland plant life can be seen around the area, including colonies of white skunk cabbage in early spring. Various migratory birds also pass through the area in spring and autumn, while Mount Rebun can be seen reflected in the lake on clear days. With facilities such as Kushuko Lakeside Campsite and a walking trail that circles the lake, this area is particularly popular during the camping season.
