Beniya Primeval Flower Garden

This natural flower garden is home to beautiful blooming flowers and grasses that brilliantly color the short summer of the Dohoku area(Northern Hokkaido). Because Dohoku is the only habitat of the western yellow wagtail in the entire country, the area was designated as the North Okhotsk Prefectural Natural Park in 1968.

Unlike other primeval flower gardens, Beniya consists of mixed environments such as coastline, forest, high mountains, and marshes. From May to August, visitors can see nearly 100 species of flora nourished by the Okhotsk sea breeze. "Beniya" comes from the name of a Meiji period fabric shop from the Tonbetsu area. Legend has it that at that time, the Beniya Farm, which cultivated pyrethrum flowers, was located near the current observation deck.

There are numerous paths that wind through the flower garden, each offering different scenic views, plants, and grasses. A tour with an expert flower guide is a great way to see all the sights of the garden. The observation deck offer's a bird's-eye-view of Beniya Primeval Flower Garden, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the wind turbines of Tonbetsu Plain. Don't miss the chance to take in the 360-degree panoramic view from here!

At Hana Hana House, you can find flower guides and purchase beverages, ice cream, and souvenirs.
